Getting to know me

Anisa Mori

Counselling

I’m Anisa Mori, a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I provide virtual therapy for adults across Canada, supporting people through the many chapters and changes that shape our lives.

I work with adults who may be navigating parenthood, relationship changes, identity, career shifts, feeling overwhelmed, anxiety, or simply a sense that something needs to change. Sometimes we know exactly what brought us to therapy, and sometimes we just know that things don’t feel quite right. Either way, you don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin.

I offer a warm, genuine space where you can slow down, talk openly, and feel heard and understood. Together, we can make sense of what you’re experiencing, reconnect with what matters to you, and work toward the changes you want to make.

My approach is client-led and goal-driven. You bring your story, experiences, and hopes for what comes next, and I’ll walk alongside you. We’ll work at a pace that feels manageable and within your window of tolerance, adjusting our approach as your needs and goals evolve.

I draw from somatic, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), client-centred, and strength-based approaches, integrating them in a way that fits you rather than asking you to fit into a particular therapeutic model.

I believe growth doesn’t always mean pushing forward. Sometimes it means slowing down, understanding yourself more deeply, finding your footing, or giving yourself permission to be where you are.

Whatever chapter you’re in, there is space for you here. If you’re wondering whether we might be a good fit, let’s connect.

My Journey

 Chapter One:
Listening Before I Knew Why

Looking back, I can see that this work found me long before I chose it.

While I was pursuing a different career path, I often found myself in unexpected conversations with complete strangers. People would share their life stories, heartaches, hopes, and challenges with me. At the time, I didn't understand why these conversations seemed to happen so naturally, but they sparked a curiosity about people and their experiences that has stayed with me ever since.

Chapter Two:
Discovering the Mind Through Movement

My curiosity about psychology deepened during my early adult years while training in sport.

As I worked to improve my athletic performance, I became increasingly interested in the psychological barriers that influence the way we think, perform, and relate to ourselves. I began questioning the impact of social expectations, cultural norms, and my own beliefs as both a woman and an athlete. I discovered that our greatest challenges are often shaped not by our physical abilities, but by the stories we carry about ourselves.

During my undergraduate degree at Thompson Rivers University, I was introduced to sport psychology, and my curiosity grew quickly into genuine excitement. For the first time, I began to understand how our experiences shape the beliefs we develop about ourselves and the world around us- and how those beliefs quietly influence the way we navigate everyday life.

I became fascinated by the messages we receive from an early age about success, competition, achievement, failure, and self-worth. In sport, we're often taught what it means to win, lose, persevere, and measure our value through performance. While these lessons can build confidence and resilience, they can also shape the stories we carry about ourselves in ways we don't always recognize. I began to realize that this extends far beyond sport. Our experiences throughout life continually shape our beliefs, our relationships, and how we experience the world around us.

During the final year of my undergraduate degree, I completed my graduate research project exploring ways to reduce barriers to participation in sport. Through an interactive study involving students and faculty from diverse backgrounds, abilities, motivations, and fitness levels, I witnessed how creating a supportive environment could encourage growth, confidence, and meaningful change.

It was during this chapter that I first realized I wanted to become a therapist.

Chapter Three:
Deepening My Understanding

Although life took me in other directions for several years, my interest in psychology never faded.

My curiosity about the connection between mind and body continued to grow through yoga teacher training, endurance sports, and strength training. These experiences deepened my appreciation for resilience, nervous system regulation, self-awareness, and the many ways our physical and emotional wellbeing influence one another. They continue to shape how I understand healing and growth today.

Eventually, I knew it was time to return to the path that had been quietly calling me for years.

Chapter Four:
Becoming a Therapist

Returning to school wasn’t something I took lightly. It meant stepping away from the familiar, taking a financial and personal risk, and trusting that the path I felt called towards was worth pursuing. It was exciting, intimidating, and filled with moments of uncertainty. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful that I chose to take that leap.

I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University, and my practicum placement with Alli Therapy. With those experiences behind me, I took another leap of faith and opened my own virtual practice, where I now have the privilege of supporting adults as they navigate their own life transitions.

The Chapter I'm Living Now

Like everyone I work with, I continue to grow and learn through experiences.

Outside of my practice, you'll often find me spending time with my family, in the trails or tending to my garden. Gardening continually reminds me that growth cannot be rushed. Every season has its purpose, and with patience, care, and the right conditions, even the smallest seed has the potential to flourish.

Every chapter of my journey has taught me something different. Some have asked me to be brave, others to be patient, and many have reminded me that growth rarely happens in a straight line. Those experiences continue to shape the therapist I am today.

I believe every person’s story is unique, and therapy should honour that. My goal is to offer a warm, supportive space where you feel safe to explore, grow, challenge yourself, and reconnect with what matters most to you. If you think we might be a good fit, I'd welcome the opportunity to get to know you and explore working together.
